Corporeal Landscape I: An Exhibition by Liz Foulks
May 2016 at the Ildiko Butler Gallery in NEW YORK CITY.
As the inception of Liz's exploration into figurative work, Corporeal Landscape I left its mark with 20 panels intricately woven into a 20-foot-long piece. The scale of the artwork invited viewers to delve into the intricacies of each panel, where charcoal on paper coalesced to form a narrative of reality vs. fiction.

Corporeal Landscape: Details & Discovery
The work behind the finalized large installation started off with close examinations of classical sculptures. The initial phase explored zoomed-in studies, each capturing the nuanced details and emotional tenor of these anatomical forms. These studies served as the foundational exploration, offering an intimate look into the classical aesthetic.
Composition became a myriad of possibilities, where the work was arranged and rearranged to evoke a sense of visual intrigue. Contrast, both in terms of light and shadow, was employed to accentuate the sculptural details, breathing life into the static forms.
